Mozilla released the Firefox 4 beta 2  yesterday.There are 1000’s of fixes made by Mozilla in this version.You can now download a second version of the beta of Firefox 4 from the Mozilla website.
The first beta version of Firefox 4 was launched earlier this month, offering built-in support for HD Video and a new Add-Ons Manager.
The new beta version, which is available in 23 languages, adds some new features including 'App Tabs'.
”App Tabs” are tabs for websites you visit regularly and keep open for tasks such as emailing or social networking. Rather than waste tabs on these commonly-accessed sites, you now have smaller App Tabs at the top left-hand side of the browser for quick and easy access.

The third beta of Firefox 4 is expected to land on 6 August.

Features still to be slotted into the browser include “Tab Candy”, which Mozilla hopes will help surfers better organise their tabs providing a separate window where you can lay out your tabs like playing cards and sort them into groups.

Mozilla Explains Why Firefox 4 Has Tabs on Top [VIDEO]

Firefox4 coming soon, and it’ll carry with it a lot of design and UI changes. One of the biggest ones is that the default setting will be to place tabs on top, a design Google Chrome popularized.

For years, there’s been heated debate in the Firefox  community over whether the tabs should be on top or below the address bar. To explain Mozilla’s decision, Alex Faaborg of the User Experience Design team recorded this seven minute video explaining the four key reasons Firefox 4 defaults to tabs on top. Watch the video to learn about them all.

If you hate the tabs on top look though, don’t worry: Faaborg makes it very clear that tabs on top is just the default setting, and that users will have full control over where their tabs are located.

Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 platform preview 3 today

Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9 platform preview 3 today, marking the third and possibly final release prior to the beta phase.

Microsoft originally unveiled Internet Explorer 9 at PDC 2009. IE 9 will take advantage of the power of the GPU for all page rendering and developers can exploit this using CSS, DHTML and javascript. A new JS engine (codenamed Chakra) will also be built into Internet Explorer 9 with greater interoperability and standards support all round. Features such as rounded corner CSS support will be built in.Microsoft is also planning broader support for HTML5 in Internet Explorer 9 through its new script engine. Microsoft recently performed W3C Web Standards tests on IE9, including HTML5, SVG 1.1 2nd edition, CSS3 media queries, CSS3 borders & backgrounds, CSS3 selectors, DOM level 3 core, DOM level 3 events and DOM level 2 style. Microsoft, with the help of W3C, performed a total of 192 tests on a variety of browsers. Internet Explorer 9 scored 100% in all eight tests, while every other browser, except Firefox in DOM level 2 style tests, didn't score perfect in any of the test categories.

Microsoft originally began scouting for Internet Explorer 9 beta testers in March. In an email to testers, Justin Saint Clair - Program Manager of Internet Explorer invited testers to join a "select group of IE9 Tech Feedback participants." Neowin understands that Microsoft will introduce a beta of Internet Explorer 9 in August. Today's Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview 3 is available at Microsoft's IE Test Drive site.

Firefox 3.6.4 provides new out-of-process plugins functionality or uninterrupted browsing for Windows and Linux users when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.

If a plugin crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plugin and try again.

Opera team has released Beta version of Opera 10.60.

Good news for Opera users. Opera team has released Beta version of Opera 10.60.

The focus on this version has been performance and core updates. They have also added some nice web technologies like WebM, Geolocation, Web Workers, Offline Web Applications, Cross-Document Messaging update etc.

Some Changes in User Interface:

• Added "Menu" to the Opera button
• Icons are replacing thumbnails for some internal tab types
• Speed dials (and tab-previews on hover) changed from 4:3 to 16:9 (wide screen format)

Opera 10.60 Alpha released

It has been very little time since the release of Opera 10.50, which blew past all the previous versions of Opera in performance, and gave other browsers some serious competition. Now Opera is already on track for Opera 10.60 with a release of its first Alpha.

For those Opera fans using Linux, there is both good news and bad. Bad news, Opera 10.50 will not be getting a stable release for Linux. Opera 10.50 for Linux was supposed to come with improved support for KDE and Gnome, and with it getting skipped, this means Linux users will have to wait much longer before a stable release. The good news is that with Opera 10.60 the Linux, Mac OS and Windows builds will come to sync, and Opera Software claims that they will strive to ensure that they remain in sync. Opera 10.60 will bring all the features that were supposed to come with Opera 10.50 for Linux.

Opera 10.60 continues improving the browsers performance with a claimed 75% improvement in performance over Opera 10.50! If these claims are true, this would make Opera 10.60 the fastest browser yet.

Opera 10.60 also continues to improve the Opera UI. With Opera 10.50 came support for Windows Aero Glass, and the reduction of UI chrome by removing the menu. The menu was instead moved to an Opera button on the top-left of the window. In 10.60 Opera now has a better, more clearly labelled menu button. mouse-over tab previews are also much smoother and better.

In Opera 10.60, tabs opened for Opera features such as the download manager, history manager, bookmarks etc showed tab previews like any other tab. Now they will show icons for the respective functions instead, making the interface much clearer.

Opera 10.52 Released,Download Now

According to the Opera Desktop Team blog, Opera 10.52 for Windows and Mac is officially out the door. However, the big story here is the Mac version, which has seen a complete re-design both on the outside and inside. The Linux version is not yet available.

Just 11 days after the release of the second beta, Opera has put the final touches on the Mac version of its web browser. According to their press release, Opera is calling 10.52 the "world's fastest browser for Mac." Equipped with a completely new JavaScript engine, called Carakan, Opera 10.52 for Mac brings users multitouch trackpad support, Growl, HTML5 functionality, and a new Cocoa based interface.

Google dropping support for Internet Explorer 6

The problem with Internet Explorer 6 is that it fails at running some of the standard features of today's web development technologies, meaning that it gives web developers a rather hard time when they put websites together. If the market share were small, this wouldn't matter so much, but Internet Explorer 6 still holds a decent-sized portion compared to other browsers, due to companies and other organizations refusing to switch from it. Despite the fact that there are many faster, more secure, and generally better browsers, such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 8, Safari and Firefox, a lot of companies have yet to make the upgrade.

The announcement earlier, made on the Google Enterprise Blog, states that beginning March 1, Google Docs and Google Sites will no longer work correctly when viewed in Internet Explorer 6. These two services have a lot of users, so hopefully, this will help make a difference when it comes to what browsers are being used. Keep in mind that the company is only starting with those two; support for Internet Explorer 6 will be phased out as time progresses, giving users some time to switch. The announcement closed with,

First Google Android netbook ships with Firefox, not Chrome!

The Acer Aspire AOD250 netbook running Google Android

A few days before the launch of Windows 7, Acer has released the first netbook to ship with the Google Android operating system. And a juicy tidbit has come out of an early review: Android comes with Mozilla Firefox for Web browsing, not Google’s own Chrome browser or the Android browser that comes on mobile phones.

 

Google has previously announced its intentions to get into the netbook game with Chrome OS, but with Android’s ready availability, it was always going to be first onto machines. Acer had said that it wanted to get Android onto its netbooks soon, and last week, the company launched the popular 10-inch AOD250 mini-laptop for this purpose. However, the AOD250 isn’t solely an Android device. Acer has included the option of dual-booting into Windows XP – a much-needed option, according to a review of the new system by PC Mag.

 

“What looks like a peel-off tab on the top left corner gets you back into WindowsXP, in case frustration builds—and it will,” writes reviewer Cisco Cheng.

 

By all accounts of the review, Android for netbooks appears to be half-baked as of now. The home screen has four gadgets (Google Talk, FireFox, Webmail, and Calendar), while a further 20 are housed in a slide-out tab on the far right (including system settings, multimedia, Webcam, Gmail).

 

With no Android Marketplace available, there is no document editing program available. So even if send or receive emails with Word documents or spreadsheets, Android won’t recognise them.

 

And since Google has not yet come out with an official stable version of Chrome for Linux, the Android system still runs on Mozilla Firefox. Of course, using the default Android Web browser for cell phones would be quite inconvenient on a computer. The reviewer notes that while it handles most Web sites like any normal Windows version of Firefox would, sometimes, certain key commands wouldn't register in Google Search or Firefox.

 

“As with past Linux operating systems, the advantages of having one are for quicker boot times and better battery savings than Windows XP. Otherwise, Android for netbooks has a long way to go before it can work alone,” the review concludes.

Chrome OS browser leaks First Time On Net

Just days away from an event at Google where the company will reveal more about one of their rumored and now confirmed projects - Chrome OS, package files and pictures have leaked showing the operating system (or at least the browser part of it) running on top of a Ubuntu install with themes and a new logo.
The files that leaked were hosted on a public Google server, and were found by Living in a Google World earlier this week. The Operating System which is very unstable (as expected) was leaked for only a few hours, and then taken down - but not before some users got copies of the files.
The part of the Operating System we can see here, at this point, looks like the Linux variant of Chrome, but with new universal themes and a new logo - that when clicked sends you to Google Short Links (which we don't know about either) - but this requires a Google.com account, which are reserved for Google Employees. At this point the "Chrome OS" is actually running on top of Ubuntu.
In addition to this, on Thursday night Google is hosting an event to reveal more about the Operating System and other emerging Google technologies. This recent invite was sent out to some bloggers:
"Join us for an evening at Google featuring presentations by Paul Rademacher on Google Maps and Ben Goodger on Chrome OS. Presentations will be followed by a short Q&A. Once the formalities have finished there will be further opportunity to meet and mingle with other attendees as well as Googlers from Chrome/ChromeOS, Maps, GMail and Search. Oh, and of course there will be plenty of food and beverages for everyone. We hope to see you there!"
Not much else is known about the Operating System at the moment, but Chrome OS is expected to be a very bare-bones OS, relying on the cloud for most of it's operations (for obvious reasons).

Firefox 3.6 beta to be released next week

Mozilla's popular web browser, Firefox, is quite a big name in the realm of the Internet. It's multi-platform, easy to use, and packs a extremely vast amount of add-ons to improve the user experience. In addition to this, it's about to get a new version.
The newest version of the browser, currently in development, is 3.6; it's not a huge upgrade, as Mozilla plans to save the bigger changes for version 4.0, but it's still packing some nice improvements. According to The Register, the new version will come with tweaks which improve the TraceMonkey javascript engine, an 'optimized session restore', plus additions to the CSS technology in the browser and improved page rendering speed. There is a discussion about the new version here, with official Firefox developers putting together the following schedule:
Oct 5: Code freeze late evening PDT.
Oct 6: Start build1 of the beta assuming trees are green.
Oct 7: Begin QA testing (or earlier as builds become available).
Oct 13: Complete QA testing by AM, ship beta in late day PDT.
Indeed, that means that the beta of the new version will be hopefully available October 13, less than a week from now. However, in the previously posted discussion, Mozilla's Mike Beltzner stated that there's no shame in missing the deadline. Understandably, this is just a beta, so people shouldn't be rushing to upgrade.
