Google is reportedly phasing out the internal use of Microsoft’s Windows operating system because of security concerns. New hires at Google are now being given the option of using Apple’s Mac computers or PCs running the Linux operating system.
The directive to move to other operating systems began in January 2010, after Google’s Chinese operations were hacked. According to a Google employee, the move to phase out Windows is also an effort to run the company on Google’s own products, including its forthcoming Chrome OS.
Windows is known for being more vulnerable to attacks by hackers and more susceptible to computer viruses than other operating systems. The greater number of attacks on Windows has much to do with its prevalence, which has made it a bigger target for attackers, reports Financial Times.
